Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza
Attend to Wisdom
Attend to Wisdom
Dedicated to St. Ivo, patron of lawyers, it was originally a chapel for the University of Rome, hence the title "Sapienza"/Wisdom. Francesco Borromini was the supervising architect of the church, decorated with the heraldry of three papal patrons, and finally completed in 1660. It is formed as an equilateral geometrical structure, based on a regular Star of David design, a play of concave and convex surfaces. It is considered the epitome of dazzling geometry in a sacred space, with the Baroque style presented as mathematics. It is also noted for its unique corkscrew lantern spire.
